We're Darren and Brandon Bedford. Between us, we've spent 38 years in the building industry — commercial, residential, and retail. These days we've narrowed our focus to what we do best: unit and apartment renovations across the Gold Coast.
How we ended up specialising in units
We didn't plan it. We just kept saying yes to unit renovations, and before we knew it, it was most of what we were doing. Dealing with body corporates, strata managers, and developers is straightforward compared to what we came from — RDM's, centre management, and demanding designers. And we'd built up a reputation for getting apartments done properly — the waterproofing right, the approvals handled, the schedule kept.
After 38 years across commercial builds, residential work, and retail fit-outs, we realised this was the work we actually enjoyed most. Smaller scale, tighter finish, real relationship with the client. So we made the call: specialise in units. Stop chasing everything else. Get properly good at one thing.
What our background brings to your renovation
The high-end joinery experience came from years of commercial fit-outs — the kind where every join is visible and nobody accepts "close enough." The planning discipline came from shopfitting deadlines where a delayed opening costs real money, so the schedule isn't negotiable. And the residential experience taught us how to talk to homeowners, not site managers — to explain things plainly and turn up when we say we will.
It's an unusual combination. Most builders have one of those, not all three. We bring all of it to every unit we do.
A crew we built ourselves
Over the years we've put together a team of joiners, carpenters, and plasterers who work together the way a crew should — they know each other's standards, they don't need to be chased, and they take pride in the finish. We're bringing painters in-house next, which means even more of the job sits under our direct control.
Why does that matter to you? Because when we control the crew, we control the schedule. We control the pricing. And we don't spend your job managing someone else's sub-contractor who's overbooked and double-parked. The people on site answer to us, nobody else.
